The Divine Gift from Queen Kaikeyi
Known affectionately as Sone Ka Ghar (The Golden House), Kanak Bhawan is one of Ayodhya's most breathtaking architectural gems. According to the Ramayana, this opulent palace was gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to Devi Sita upon her arrival in Ayodhya after her wedding to Lord Rama. The palace was subsequently renovated by King Vikramaditya and later rebuilt in 1891 by Rani Vrishbhanu Kunwari of Orchha (Tikamgarh).
Architectural Splendor of Kanak Bhawan
The palace showcases ornate Bundelkhand-style palace architecture characterized by arched courtyards, marble floorings, and gilded ceilings. In the central inner sanctum, three pairs of magnificent golden-crowned idols of Shri Sita-Rama are installed:
- The largest pair was installed by Rani Vrishbhanu Kunwari.
- The medium pair was established by King Vikramaditya.
- The smallest pair is revered to have been worshipped by Lord Krishna's consort, Queen Rukmini.
Musical Bhajans and Daily Darshan Timings
Kanak Bhawan is renowned for its sublime classical singing (Samaj Gayan) echoing throughout the marble courtyard. Darshan timings are typically 08:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the morning and 04:30 PM to 09:30 PM in the evening. Pilgrims enjoy sitting in the open courtyard absorbing the tranquil divine vibrations.
