The Childhood Palace of the Sun Dynasty (Suryavansha)
Situated in the heart of old Ayodhya near Hanuman Garhi, Dashrath Mahal (also revered as Bada Sthan) stands on the sacred site believed to be the royal residence of King Dasharatha, father of Lord Rama. It is here that the four divine brothers—Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna—spent their joyous childhood years.
Architecture & Daily Musical Atmosphere
Entering through an imposing ornate gateway adorned with paintings of Lord Rama and celestial beings, visitors enter a vibrant courtyard lined with pillared corridors. Key features include:
- Continuous Bhajan Recitals: Resident sanyasis and sadhus chant devotional Ram bhajans accompanied by harmonium, kartal, and dholak throughout the day.
- Sanctum Idols: The inner temple enshrines beautiful representations of King Dasharatha, Queen Kaushalya, and the four young princes alongside Guru Vashishta.
- Intricate Murals: Wall paintings depicting scenes from the Baal Kanda of the Ramcharitmanas.
